Play Shadow Warrior 3 in the Dragon's Nest

The lead producer on Shadow Warrior 3 tells you what to expect:

Howdy, Shadow Warrior fans! I’m Bartek Krzemiński, lead producer on Shadow Warrior 3 and overlord of all things Wang here at Flying Wild Hog. Today we’re announcing the release date and giving you some fresh details about the game in the form of an extended gameplay video—see below! We’re even going to throw in a fancy limited edition steel book because you deserve it after waiting so long for this game to come out.

What’s new in Shadow Warrior 3?

shadow warrior 3

We’ve made major improvements over our previous game, most notably in visual fidelity. If you played Shadow Warrior 2 and thought, wow, I can’t wait for them to upgrade all of their textures! Well...we have some great news for you! In fact, we upgraded them all. You will also notice a higher quality of graphics and animations which are also helping us deliver more detailed characters. What’s more?

How is Shadow Warrior different from its predecessor?

Although there is a lot of carryover from our previous game, in Shadow Warrior 2 we really tried to build upon those elements, streamlining them and making them more interesting. One example would be our procedurally generated weapon system, which has been vastly improved in Shadow Warrior 3. In addition, another major area we've taken feedback from players was loot management; it was clear that many people struggled with obtaining and managing loot in SW2 so we decided to take a new approach by not even having any loot drops! This might sound crazy, but most items are now acquired as quest rewards or findable. Doing away with randomization has made acquiring unique weapons and armor feel much more rewarding than ever before. I hope everyone will enjoy how streamlined our new system feels!

Where does Shadow Warrior stand in the genre?

We’re keeping with Flying Wild Hog’s tradition of being a fun shooter with a great sense of humor. If you enjoyed Shadow Warrior 2, we think that fans of that game will have a lot to look forward to here in Shadow Warrior 3. The game has been built from scratch with additional help from our team at Reikon Games and will feature larger environments and more customizable weapons than ever before while maintaining fast-paced fluid combat with oodles of gore and comedy.

Why does 2022 seem like a good year for Shadow Warrior?

2022 is a year loaded with release-date significance for Flying Wild Hog. Shadow Warrior and Hard Reset were released in March 2013 and 2012, respectively. Five years later, we’re releasing our third game set in that universe, Shadow Warrior 2 (set to launch February 13), and now, only a month after it comes out, we’ll be releasing its successor on March 1 of 2022. Isn’t that neat? We think so!

What about melee combat?

The team here at Flying Wild Hog has spent a lot of time making sure that combat in Shadow Warrior 3 feels great and is as satisfying as it can be. But with a name like Shadow Warrior, I know a lot of people wonder if we’re planning to bring back any long-lost weapons or make big changes to things like melee combat. The answer is no—Shadow Warrior 2 had pretty fantastic melee combat, so our biggest goal with adding a katana was making sure Lo Wang felt powerful and dangerous when using it. Beyond that, there are some other changes we’ve made – but more on those soon! We’re still tweaking things and adding polish as we go. And there are even a few surprises in store...

What was your inspiration for designing characters?

After our first game, Hard Reset was received well by players and reviewers alike, we immediately began working on its sequel. Unfortunately for us, but fortunately for gamers in general, it took almost five years for Flying Wild Hog to create a worthy successor. During that time we experimented with other ideas such as Hard Reset: Exile and Hard Reset: Reborn. All these attempts were important lessons leading up to Shadow Warrior 2’s final shape.

What do women think of Lo Wang?

As someone who has been playing video games since I was 8 years old, I know that our industry has a long way to go in creating more opportunities for women. As women make up nearly half of all gamers, we want their opinions on Shadow Warrior 3. That’s why we invited a group of female gamers from Poland’s biggest cosplay gathering—Dragon Nest—to play through an early version of Shadow Warrior 3. Their feedback will be used in making improvements to our game before launch.

Are there any easter eggs you can tell us about?

There are plenty of easter eggs in there, and we are sure our fans will find them. I’ll give you a couple of hints: The level Ritual Grounds has a room with dragon nests, which should be easy to spot. Also at that level, it’s possible to kick your gun across some laser beams. Be careful not to hit them!
